Wage and Overtime Lawyer • Johnson County, Kansas
The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) sets rules for overtime work, the minimum wage, and child labor. Generally speaking, non-managerial (non-exempt) employees must be paid at a rate of not less than one and one-half times their regular rates of pay after 40 hours of work in a week. Managerial employees are considered exempt from the overtime pay requirement.
However, just having the title "manager" does not make you exempt under the law. Many people who have been classified as exempt by their employers are really non-exempt under the law, and entitled to overtime pay. In addition, many employers force non-exempt employees to work through lunch breaks or work off the clock. Employees in these situations may be entitled to overtime pay for past and future hours worked.

Wage and Overtime Issues Are Complex
If everyone simply punched a clock, many wage and overtime disputes would not arise. Nowadays however, flexible job descriptions and work rules make the overtime question more difficult to answer. Time spent while on call, traveling to different work locations and activities performed before and after the core work period may qualify you for overtime pay.
Michael Shultz has worked for over 20 years as an employment law attorney and has taught employment law issues at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law where he was a professor for six years. He understands the complexities of the Fair Labor Standards Act and how to use the legal system to obtain results for his clients.
If you have been unfairly denied overtime pay, Michael Shultz will work to help you obtain the compensation you deserve.
